We watched the Inauguration.....on TV. No way was I going to the
Mall this time. I thought the music before Obama was sworn in was
great. Would love to get that on CD. Two hours later we refinanced
the house for a ridiculously low rate. One silver lining in this
recession...... |
| 01/18/2009 |
Lot going on here.
We just got back from Orlando. Met up with my parents for a Disney
vacation. We went to Magic Kingdom twice, Karen and I went to
Epcot once, Bridget was escorted by her grandparents to Animal
Kingdom once, and we went to Seaworld once. Good times. The weather,
for the most part, cooperated. I will post some photos soon.
On a baseball note, Rickey Henderson, my favorite
player of all time, was inducted into the Hall of Fame with 94.8%
of the ballots. My question is, who are the idiots who didn't
vote for him?
|

Happy New Year! Karen and I stayed up until midnight to watch the
ball drop and all that. Then went to bed. Yesterday we went to DC
with good friends Andy, Renee, Carol, and Tim and Nick. Saw the

I will soon have my links up of books read and movies seen in 2009.
|
| 12/30/2008 |

Larry." Eh..... |
| 11/22/2008 |
The lack of updates over the past two weeks was due to my computer
crashing. Some Dell dude in India helped me reinstall Windows XP,
and thankfully I had a backup of all my data. So, back to business.
I'll have some photos soon. Not sure where I left off.
Earlier this month I finished the book, The Millionaires, by Brad
Meltzer. Good quick read. And last week Bridget and I saw the movie
"Madagascar 2: Back to Africa."

Bridget went with me to vote this morning. Not a bad line...we only
waited about ten minutes.
We watched returns and had pizza. Good times. |
| 11/03/2008 |
Two things: First,
anyone who votes for McCain is an IDIOT. The best choice is so
obvious....Obama.
Second, if Obama wins, I think Tom Daschle will be his Chief of
Staff. Just my two cents.
|
| 10/31/2008 |

her Cinderella costume. After that, we stopped at a neighbor's house
for a party. Good times. Photos later. |

cold and windy weather helped with that. The train ride was fun,
and after that we rode the haunted merry-go-round. |
| 10/28/2008 |

About 100,000 people rallied with Obama in St. Louis. Colin Powell
endorsed Obama today. I'm just saying.... |
| 10/15/2008 |
This column,
from today's Washington Post, has a very good read on the current
fiscal crisis, and elaborates on why it will be with us for some
time. Not a doomsday prediction.....rather it lists what potential
pitfalls are out there.
Here are some random
September photos.
|
| 10/14/2008 |
Bridget and I both got flu shots today. Hers at her doctor's and

of the National Rifle Association. Which may explain why she's in
favor of shotgun weddings." --Conan O'Brien
|
| 09/17/2008 |
Bridget was supposed to go to school today, but she is sick. Stomach
stuff last night and this morning. Joy!
"John McCain's VP pick is the governor of Alaska, a unknown
hockey mom named Sarah Palin that no one ever heard of. The only
other job she had in politics was the mayor of a small town known
as Wasilla, Alaska, and now she has the opportunity to be on a ticket
opposite of Barack Obama, the first black man she's ever seen."

girl had three camps this summer. Not bad!
Lot of trades in baseball the last few days. My Nationals didn't
do much. I don't follow baseball as much as I used to. Maybe I should

| 07/04/2008 |
Tonight we saw the fireworks at Karen's coworker's place on Pennsylvania
Avenue NW. Great time and great food! Bridget enjoyed the show and
wearing her new dress. I'll post some photos soon.
|
| 07/03/2008 |
Bridget and I saw "WALL-E." We both liked it. Interesting
to have an animated movie with little English, or other human language,
not spoken in the first 3/4 of the film.
The Seattle SuperSonics have left Seattle for Oklahoma City. I have
been a Seattle Sonics fan since the womb. I am absolutely stunned
to not have them in Seattle anymore. NBA is dead to me now.
|
| 06/30/2008 |
I finished Season Three of "Weeds." Season Four just started
on Showtime, so I have a long wait until that comes out on DVD.
Ah well. Other shows!
I also finished the book, The Sacred Bones, by Michael Byrnes. Good
read. Better than The Da Vinci Code.
|
| 06/28/2008 |
Last night at work I took a credit card payment from a man named
Mr. D--kover. I am totally serious. Reminds me of the Sean Cassidy
roommate and the friend Jose Cuervo I had in college. |
| 06/26/2008 |
Today Bridget and I saw "Kung Fu Panda." She had a good
time at her first movie. |
| 06/25/2008 |
I finished the book, The Betrayal of Work: How Low-Wage Jobs Fail
30 Million Americans, by Beth Shulman. Interesting read.
|
| 06/22/2008 |
After working in the yard, I saw "Indiana Jones and theKingdom
of the Crystal Skull." Not as good as the first three, but
what do you expect after a 20-year grace period? |
| 06/17/2008 |
Today Bridget and I met my college friend, Elisa, and her two daughters.
I haven't seen her since 1993 graduation. We went to Cabin John
Park and out to lunch. Bridget had fun playing with Beatrice and
Margaret. And I had yet another reminder of how old I am getting.....
I've also uploaded some photos: Dutch
Wonderland.....Thomas
the Tank Engine.....Random
May 2008. Enjoy!
|
| 06/16/2008 |
Where have I been? We went to Dutch
Wonderland in Lancaster, PA! Bridget had a great time on the
rides! She was tall enough for all of the rides except for one.
She also had a great time at the Strasburg
Railroad where she road Thomas the Tank Engine. I will post
photos soon.
Oh, and her mommy and daddy had a good time too!
|
| 06/11/2008 |
I finished the book, City Adrift: New Orleans Before and After Katrina.
One of my college schoolmates, Sara Shipley (Hiles), was one of
the authors. Very good, and sad considering I lived in New Orleans
for four years.
|
| 06/08/2008 |
It has been hot, hot, hot. Ten to twelve degrees over normal, and
very humid. Heat index over 100. Joy! I mowed the lawn this morning.
Not that bad. Hotter in the late afternoon.
Last night we watched "Manufactured Landscapes," a documentary.
Interesting.
Today I finished the book, Bluebeard's Egg, by Margaret Atwood.
The first book I've read by her. I liked it. May read more of her
later.
|
| 06/04/2008 |
Happy 39th birthday to my sister-in-law Charla!
Obama gets the nod. Finally over. |
| 06/01/2008 |
Last night we finished Season One of The Wire. Great show.
|
| 05/26/2008 |
Yesterday I mowed the lawn and did some other work. Last night we
went to Five Guys for dinner, then to Rebecca's house to watch "Raiders
of the Last Ark" and some cartoons outside on a projector.
Good fun. Bridget fell asleep.
Here is the link
for the RFK comments Hillary made, in her own words. Enjoy!
|
| 05/24/2008 |
Here are some random pictures
from the last couple of months. Enjoy!
I finished the movie "Radiant City," a documentary on
suburbia. Not that good. |
| 05/23/2008 |
Feeling better, but going to the doctor today for a checkup. Tired
though. Could be worse.
Yesterday was Bridget's last day of preschool until September. She
had an outing at a local park.
I finished the book, Duma Key, by Stephen King. Very good. Now for
sale on Ebay!
|
| 05/20/2008 |
I've been feeling crappy since the 15th. Went to the doctor today
and found out I either have pneumonia. Joy.....
And not that I care, but I hope David Clarke wins American Idol.
He is from Kansas City!
|
| 05/15/2008 |
Today is my 37th birthday. |
| 05/10/2008 |
I finished the movie "Hot Fuzz." Eh..... |
| 05/06/2008 |
Sunday I mowed the lawn. I had my two year old mower tuned up in
February in anticipation of this mowing season. Anyway, I broke
the mower when I hit a stump on the median by between the road and
the sidewalk. I was able to finish mowing, but the mower was vibrating
heavily and the cut wasn't perfect. So, I need to buy a new mower
in a week or so. Joy. Oh, and the kicker? The county dug out the
stump the next day, Monday.
|
| 05/02/2008 |
I finished the book, "Oil on the Brain: Petroleum's Long, Strange
Trip to Your Tank, " by Lisa Margonelli. Very good read. Mailed
it to a friend in Wisconsin. |
| 05/01/2008 |
Happy first day of May! My favorite month. |
| 04/30/2008 |
Yesterday Bridget had her "circus days" at school. There
was a clown, snacks, and games. Bridget had fun. I'll post photos
later.
We had dinner at Savannah's, a restaurant in Kensington. After Bridget
went to bed I watched Saw IV. It was ok. Confusing so much that
I had to go to Wikipedia to understand it. And they are making more
of them....
|
| 04/28/2008 |
Bridget and I went to Union Station via the Metro. We saw some trains
and Bridget looked at the statues and ceiling at the station. We
then walked up the street to St. Joseph's Church and the Hart Senate
Office Building. It was raining so we stopped in to visit with some
staffers at Senator Baucus' office. Then home. Wet and fun! I took
a couple of photos which I will post later.
|
| 04/27/2008 |
I finished Dexter: Season One tonight. I liked the series! Season
Two is not out yet on DVD. I'm sure I'll watch it.
Karen has another conference. So, it is just B and I for a few days!
Tonight we went to Baja Fresh and then Baskin Robbins.
|
| 04/25/2008 |
I was at work for a whole hour yesterday. Wasn't feeling well all
day....stomach issue, no fever or anything. Just felt sick at work.
Feel better now. Must have been a 24 hour bug or something....
This song is from the Six Feet
Under series finale. Absolutely haunting.....
|
| 04/20/2008 |
Karen and I watched the movie Juno. Short and great! |
| 04/18/2008 |
The NBA
and Clay Bennett can kiss my Sonics lovin' rear end.
|
| 04/17/2008 |
Grandpa Tom was in town again, and Bridget showed him the Meadowside
Nature Center. They had fun hiking.
Somehow I got an email from some site called Bebo. Somehow they
hijacked my Yahoo! address book. I don't do anything with that site!
Yuck.
|
| 04/15/2008 |
I finished watching the movie Live Free or Die Hard. Over the top
is all I can say. Hope they don't make a fifth one. Bruce Willis
must have really needed that paycheck. |
| 04/11/2008 |
I finished the book "Pigtopia," by Kitty Fitzgerald. A
great story! |
| 04/10/2008 |
I finished watching the movie Michael Clayton, with George Clooney.
I liked it. The beginning of the closing credits was a strange sight.
|
| 04/09/2008 |
I'm still giddy about the Jayhawks winning. Absolutely giddy.
I threw together a photo
story of some Bridget shots. Set to a great song. |
| 04/08/2008 |
Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Kansas wins the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
We all ended up watching the game...the whole thing. Bridget got
her bath at halftime. She enjoyed watching daddy squirm when Kansas
was ahead and yelled with daddy when they got ahead and won. Fun
time! |
| 04/07/2008 |
Yesterday was
a busy day. First, it was Karen's 37th birthday! Happy Birthday!
To celebrate, we had a birthday party for.....Bridget! She had
some of her friends over for two hours. Cake, toys, and a pinata!
We had most of it inside because of rain. Pictures
of both birthday parties are here.
I watched I Am Legend last night. Kind of disappointing, but I
love Will Smith!
Kansas plays Memphis in tonights National Championship. Of course
I'll be watching. Go Kansas!
|
| 04/05/2008 |
Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Kansas beats UNC! I was sick to my stomach when
UNC cut the 28 point KU lead to four. I couldn't watch for a bit.
Memphis waits Monday. |
| 04/05/2008 |
Game time is 8:47 pm or so. Hopefully a good game tonight. I don't
care about the Memphis/UCLA matchup.
Tomorrow is Bridget's birthday party with her friends. I mowed the
lawn for the first time to get ready. Looks nice. Hopefully it will
be good weather tomorrow.
|
| 04/02/2008 |
I finished the book "The Boys' Crusade: The American Infantry
in Northwestern Europe, 1944-1945," by Paul Fussell. Quick
read...short book. Interesting.
Saturday is game time! KU vs the other team in the evening.
|
| 04/01/2008 |
Unfortunately, Bridget stayed home from school today....little fever,
nothing else.
If Bill Self takes the Oklahoma State job, I'll kick him in the
jewels...... |
| 03/30/2008 |
I had to work today from 1-9 pm. Good thing since I missed the Kansas
game against Davidson. I caught a few minutes, but I think I would
have lost a few years of my life watching it all. But....
....KU is in the Final Four! Woohooo! Bridget is starting to learn
the phrase "Rock, Chalk Jayhawk!!!!"
|
| 03/29/2008 |
Karen and I watched Atonement. Very good. Too bad I couldn't "get
into" the novel. Ah well. |
| 03/27/2008 |
Bridget and I met Grandma Scottie at the National Portrait Gallery
downtown. We had lunch then with Grandpa Tom, and then went to the
frog exhibit at the National Geographic building. Bridget had a
great time! After saying goodbye to her grandparents, Bridget joined
her daddy visiting with John Weinfurter. She fell asleep in her
stroller while they talked. A good day!
|
| 03/26/2008 |
Today is Bridget Paige Trebon's fourth birthday! We are having a
family day with Grandmom Mary, Grandpa Tom, Grandma Scottie, Aunt
Charla, and us. Kids party is next week. |
| 03/23/2008 |
Happy Easter! We drove up to Grandmom Mary's place in Baltimore.
Good food. I fell asleep on the couch.
Last night Karen and I watched American Gangster. Very, very good!
I forgot that the reviews said it was a long movie, but at the end
you thought it was short. I agree. Nonstop action and plot changes.
Kansas won! In the Sweet 16 again. Villanova awaits.
I finished "Playing for Pizza" by John Grisham. I thought
it was better than the reviews suggested. Selling it on Ebay now.
|
| 03/21/2008 |
Yesterday was the first day of Spring. I thought it was today, but
some Web site said I was wrong.
I've posted some March
2008 photos. More later. |
| 03/17/2008 |
Happy St. Patrick's Day! This site always has green in it.
I finished watching the series Six Feet Under. I loved the finale.
|
| 03/16/2008 |
Last night Karen and I watched No Country for Old Men. Great movie.
Today we bought Bridget some new shoes! She likes them, even if
they don't "lite up." |
| 03/12/2008 |
Yesterday Karen and I met with Bridget's teachers at our first "parent-teacher
conference." More of those in the future.
I wish Geraldine Ferraro would shut
up! |
| 03/09/2008 |
Happy Daylight Saving Time. I guess.
Karen and I watched The Invasion. Nice sci-fi flick.
I finally filed our taxes. |
| 03/04/2008 |
I found a great clip
on You Tube.
|
| 03/02/2008 |
Last night Karen and I watched the movie Zodiac. Long.
Today we went to Bridget's friend Vaughn's birthday party. It was
at a tumbling gym for tots! Good fun. We ate at Five Guys after
the party (the three of us.)
Oh, and Kansas manhandled K-State. Revenge!
|
| 02/27/2008 |
I finished the book "Nineteen Minutes," by Jodi Picoult.
First book by her I've read. Very good read.
|
| 02/23/2008 |
Bridget went to a birthday party for her friend Brandon. It was
at Chuck E. Cheese. She had fun, and her parents needed aspirin.
Kansas lost to Oklahoma State. Yeah yeah. |
| 02/20/2008 |
I finished the book "The Hot House: Inside Leavenworth Prison."
Good read. |
| 02/18/2008 |
Last night I finished Season Four of Six Feet Under. Now I will
start Season Five.
I have uploaded Christmas photos. Enjoy! |
| 02/17/2008 |
Happy Birthday to my good friend Bill Buser of Seattle!
Clay
Bennett, owner of the Seattle Supersonics, and Daniel Stern,
NBA commissioner, can kiss my a**.
Yesterday I worked. But Karen and Bridget went with Renee, Tim and
Nick to the National Archives. They had a great time!
|
| 02/13/2008 |
Obama won Maryland (and Virginia, and DC)! We had an ice storm last
night. Power stayed on, but roads were icy. Wet winter "crap"
today.
Maryland GOP Congressman Wayne Gilchrest lost his primary. Guess
he can't advocate any Democratic staffers to be Maryland's Secretary
of Agriculture now!
We finished watchint Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
It had its moments.
|
| 02/12/2008 |
I voted for OBAMA today. Hope he wins. |
| 02/11/2008 |
I have uploaded another picture. This one is from our summer visit
to Sesame Place. Bridget and I on the roller
coaster.
I also finished the book "Next," by Michael Cricton. Very
good and fast read.
Tomorrow is the Maryland primary. Go Obama! |
| 02/10/2008 |
I have uploaded two pictures.
They are Bridget's "threes" preschool pictures....one
of her and one of her class. They aren't the greatest quality. I
may redo them later. |
| 02/06/2008 |
Bridget and I went to Ash Wednesday Mass. She was a good girl, but
didn't like it when the priest put ashes on her forehead. |
| 02/05/2008 |
Happy Mardi Gras 2008! Lots of fond memories of my four years in
New Orleans.... |
| 02/04/2008 |
I finished the book "The Working Poor: Invisible in America,"
by David Shipler. |
| 02/03/2008 |
We watched three quarters of the Super Bowl at our friend Jonathan's
house. Great food and friends! Watched the last five minutes or
so at our house. So glad the Giants won! |
| 02/02/2008 |
Happy Birthday to my Aunt Billie!
Karen and I watched The Bourne Ultimatum. |
| 02/01/2008 |
I am an uncle again! Name of new nephew forthcoming! |
| 01/27/2008 |
Obama won South Carolina's primary! Woohoo!
I have updated the "Lists" section
on the website. Changed some stuff around. Hey, I only do this once
or twice a year! |
| 01/25/2008 |
Bridget and I went to playgroup at Rebecca's house. Fun fun. Bridget
was especially excited because we brought donuts! |
| 01/23/2008 |
We had our carpets cleaned today. Found a very good small business.
Bridget and I went to Starbucks and the library while they dried.
I am a New York Giants fan for the next two weeks. I hope they can
beat the Pats. The Green Bay/NY Giants game was one of the most
entertaining football games I've ever watched.
|
| 01/20/2008 |
Karen and I watched the movie Sicko.
I hope the Chargers and the Packers win! |
| 01/18/2008 |
Today is my nephew Ryan's second birthday! |
| 01/17/2008 |
I finished Weeds, Season Two. Season Three is still new on Showtime,
so I guess I have a while to wait. |
| 01/15/2008 |
Ok, I figured out how to reduce the size of the movies I took. Here
is the one of our kitchen...this
time a much more manageable size. |
| 01/13/2008 |
Karen and I last night watched The Reaping. Good horror/thriller
flick.
I finished the book "Once Upon a Time in America," by
Lee Hays. I'll release it on www.bookcrossing.com
tomorrow. |
| 01/11/2008 |
I signed Bridget up for next year's four-year-old class for preschool.
Karen is out of town on a personal holiday on the Eastern Shore
of Maryland. Bridget and I went to Outback last night. I finished
Season Three of Six Feet Under when she fell asleep. Great show!
|
| 01/09/2008 |
Yesterday I finished the book "Slow Waltz in Cedar Bend,"
by Robert James Waller. Yes, I lost one of my man cards for reading
that book. Seriously, I thought it was very good. |
| 01/07/2008 |
It is January,
and 63 degrees. Supposed to be 68 tomorrow. We will get some outside
time!
Last night we went to the Winter Lights at Brookside Gardens.
Good time. Bridget was a little fussy and pushy, but it was still
fun. They work hard to put up those lights.
Also, I am in the process of updating this site, so check back
often. Archiving some pages to decrease load time and open up
space.
|
| 01/06/2008 |
Pretty laid back weekend. We watched Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic.
Funny. She is daring.
We took down the Christmas decorations. No holidays until MLK day,
and there aren't any decorations for that day.
Oh, and OBAMA!!!!
|
| 01/03/2008 |
I dropped Bridget off at preschool this morning. Good to be back.
I was reminded of that Staples "backtoschool" commercial
where the dad is happy and the kids are bummed out.
I finished the book "Big Coal: The Dirty Secret Behind America's
Energy Future," by Jeff Goodell. Very interesting read.
|
| 01/02/2008 |
Happy New Year! We didn't do a whole lot for New Year's Eve. Karen
worked so Bridget and I ran errands and played. We ate Chinese food
for dinner. B went to bed around 11 and Karen and I watched the
ball drop.
I took a lot of photos in Colorado. Oh, and a few movies. Good movies
too, including ones of Ryan and Bridget dancing. They turned out
very well! But, they were taken with my new camera. I discovered
that the factory preset is for movie-taking in "best"
format, which means they are larger files. So, instead of the 1-6
megabyte files I was used to with my old camera, I have movies with
40 megabytes or more. I don't think I will be uploading those to
this site. If you are family or a close friend, I can send them
to you. (I have changed the setting on my camera....)
|
| 12/30/2007 |
Well, we got back from Colorado last night. Easy trip out, easy
trip back. Bridget was very good! In Colorado, we had a good visit
with everyone. We explored Fort Collins and ate a lot. I will have
photos and movies up soon.
However, I have put up some photos
of our new kitchen, completed in August. Also put up a movie
of the kitchen (this is a huge file).
|
| 12/22/2007 |
Today we are going
up to Mary's for an early Christmas. Tomorrow we go to Colorado.
Fun fun!
Last night Karen and I watched Attack of the 80's, a compilation
of 50 movie trailers from the 1980s. Funny to watch considering
that the effects in some of the films were at one time considered
cutting-edge!
|
| 12/17/2007 |
Last night we went to see Santa at the DC Trolley Museum, which
is about three miles from our house...in Maryland. It was HollyTrolley
Fest, or something like that. We rode a trolley with Santa and saw
some model trains. Fun fun. Cold and windy though.
Speaking of Santa, here
is Bridget's picture with Santa at White Flint Mall.
I finished Weeds, Season One. Very good show!
